This may be a huge mistake, but…

I signed up to run the Indy Mini-Marathon! That’s 13.1 miles. 13.1! Craziness.

My goal right now is to run the entire race, which should be interesting to say the least. 4 miles is the most that I have ever run at one time, but I’m really excited about it.

The race isn’t until May, and I started training a couple of weeks ago.

Engagement Picture Preview

I have something so exciting to share with you guys today – we got a preview of our engagement pictures from this past weekend!


I could not be more thrilled. Our photographer, Tessa, is the best!

If you’re in Indiana (or anywhere really – she travels!) and in search of an awesome photographer, check Tessa out. I may be a bit biased since I’ve known her for like 20 years, but seriously, she’s wonderful. She made us feel so comfortable!

Life Update

It’s been awhile, friends. Let’s catch up, shall we? Since the last time we got together, quite a bit has happened.

I finished my first year of grad school.
I completed my first Level II Fieldwork.
I’ve completed 3 5ks.
I turned 24.
I lost a beloved pet.
I started my second (and final!) year of grad school.
I lost a few pounds.
I gained a few pounds.
And I lost a few pounds again.

That about sums up the past six months of my life.

Since I officially booked our engagement pictures with Tessa (so excited!), it’s time to get serious about a wedding budget. I am typically a spreadsheet type of gal, but this option is just so much prettier…also, a little overwhelming.


I may be late to this train, but I have absolutely fallen in love with Biscoff cookie spread. Please tell me you’ve tried it. If not, you’re missing out. Although I’d love to just scoop some out and eat it, it’s not nearly as satisfying as using it as a topping. Same cookie taste, more food. I’ve used it on top of protein pancakes, popcorn, and in yogurt. My favorite combo is definitely the yogurt though. Holy goodness, and it’s only 170 calories (5.5f, 17.5c, 12.5p). Perfection.


On repeat this week: Aloe Blacc. Seriously, check him out. My current favorite is “I Need a Dollar” from his Good Things album. That will probably change tomorrow though. He’s just that good!



Since March has arrived, I’m beginning to feel the craziness that is March Madness. Personally, I am not a college sports fan. Pacers all the way, baby.

I’m still chugging along with IIFYM. Check out this post if you’re wondering what the heck that means. I do catch myself wanting to check the scale every single day because I’m just so excited to see what has changed! I’ve only weighed myself three times since last Friday. That’s not too bad, right? Better than every day. Progress people.I have resisted checking my measurements (except for once – and I only measured my stomach – so it doesn’t count), and I’m going to continue waiting until it’s been two weeks since starting IIFYM per Poppy Locks’ suggestion.

I’m trying something new, or rather, adjusting what I have been doing. I know what you’re probably thinking. “You’re trying something else? You always start things and never finish them.” You’d be right, but I can only tell you that this time is different.

I’ve been consistently counting my calories using the Lose It! app for about five months now, and I’ve lost about 10 pounds so far.

My last two sets of progress pictures. Not too many differences, except on the scale.

Over the last couple of months though, I’ve been losing and gaining the same two or three pounds. I needed to change something up. I’ve read such great things about the flexibility that comes with counting macros over straight calories, so I decided to try it out. Poppy Locks calculated my macros for me, and I officially started using IIFYM (If It Fits Your Macros) last Friday.

So far, I am absolutely loving it. It takes so much more planning than I am used to, but it’s almost fun to see how I can play with my macros to get the best meals possible. After only a few days, I already feel better. I’ll update in a couple of weeks to let you know if it’s actually helping me lose weight or inches!

Pacers Game 2.24.16On Wednesday afternoon, Potter told me that he had won a raffle at work that morning, so we were able to go to the Pacers game that morning for free! That was certainly a nice surprise. I love the Pacers, so I was super excited. I was even more excited when I found out that we were in the 13th row (!), and they were playing the Evil Knicks. Even better, we won!



Snuggling with Mr. Grizwald here is one of my favorite forms of stress relief. He’s a super weird dog but oh so entertaining.


Speaking of stress relief, I’ve been trying to incorporate more yoga into my life. One of my goals for this year was to get crow pose down. I should probably start working more on that since it’s almost march!

Caffeine addict

I have my pathophysiology midterm next Tuesday, so I’ll be living at the library or Starbucks until then. I’m thinking about gifting myself with this mug as a reward for taking the exam – not even getting a good grade, just getting through it. C’s get degrees after all. Just kidding, kind of.

Comparison is the thief of joy. Alternate title: Comparison will kill you.

Something has been weighing heavily on my heart lately.

Am I good enough?

A good enough student? A good enough friend? A good enough fiance/sister/daughter/niece/cousin?

Good enough compared to what exactly? To this warped view I have of those around me? If I can see the good in those around me, why is it so difficult to see all of the good in myself?

I’ve been specifically struggling with the student part over the past few weeks – a good enough student. As some of you may know, I’m currently getting my master’s in occupational therapy. Compared to my undergraduate degree, this degree feels completely different. I am very much aware that I am choosing to be there. It’s not absolutely necessary for me to survive. No one is forcing me to spend the thousands of dollars that I don’t have for this education. No one is making me dedicate two years of my life to even more education.

Since I have chosen this path, I feel like I need to be the best, and I am failing. I see my classmates and how they feel that OT is their calling – like there is nothing else in the world they could possibly do or be. I’ll be honest, I don’t feel that way. And you know what, THAT’S OK. Just because my reasons for choosing something are different, does not mean that they are¬†somehow less.¬†

Yet again, I’m learning the lesson that comparing myself to others will slowly kill me. Ok, maybe that’s an exaggeration. It’s an important lesson though, and I’m still learning it. I urge you to do it too. It will only make you happier.

Workout Wednesday 1.13.16

Since joining my gym last August, I have found it to be much easier to get to the gym for a workout. Spending money is apparently very motivating!

Here is what I’ve done over the past week.

Wednesday 1/6: 55 minutes incline walking on treadmill
Thursday 1/7: Rest
Friday 1/8: 45 minutes walking on treadmill
Saturday 1/9: 45 minutes on treadmill (Couch to 10k Week 1 Day 1)
Sunday 1/10: 45 minutes (11 miles) on stationary bike
Monday 1/11: 45 minutes incline walking on treadmill
Tuesday 1/12: 47 minutes on treadmill (Couch to 10k Week 1 Day 2)

My goal for the next week is to add in some weights at least twice.

2 Year No Pop-iversary!

Whenever I’m feeling not so motivated, it’s helpful to look back on some of the positive changes that I’ve made. Although it doesn’t seem like it at the time, the little things really do start to add up. So today I would like to celebrate my 2 year no pop-iversary! I have not had pop since New Year’s Eve 2013.

And yes, this is the Midwest. It’s pop, not soda.


Before I lost the weight the first time, I was drinking as many as five or six cans of Diet Mountain Dew every day. I quit drinking pop, and it immediately jump-started my weight loss. During my undergrad when my weight came creeping back, drinking pop was a major reason why. So I decided to give it up once again, and I honestly don’t even miss it anymore. I drink La Croix now (lemon and lime are currently my favorites!), and it really helps with the carbonation cravings.

If you’re thinking about cutting down or cutting out pop, try it for a week and see how you feel. I felt much better, and you probably will too!
